How to Make Time for Your Marriage #379

How to Make Time for Your Marriage #379

We are focused on ways to make time for your marriage this week. Are you deliberate about setting aside time to focus on your marriage every day and every week? If we are not careful, other priorities like work, kids, and social activities can fill up our calendars, and without meaning to, married couples can begin to drift apart.

Some ideas Danielle shares in today’s episode:

(Snippet from the Show)
“We need to be deliberate about choosing the other person, about choosing the other person, choosing marriage, and saying YES to our spouse again, every single day.”

1. Assess your time
Find out how much time you spend on your marriage versus other priorities in your life, and see where there might be space for you and your spouse.

2. Plan to talk.
Have at least a few minutes set aside every day where you and your spouse can talk, check in about daily activities, and share what’s going on in your life.

3. Have a date night!
Once a week is a good place to start. It doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming, but it does need to be fun and mandatory. Here are some in-house ideas to get you started.

4. Do a project together.
You might take a class or take on a home improvement project together. Find a way to have a shared goal and remind yourselves that you are teammates.

5. Pay attention to work boundaries.
Work has a way of seeping in and taking over in our personal lives. Set some boundaries and have phone-free times.

6. Pray together.
Or at the very least, pray for your spouse and for your marriage every day!

7. Remember your priorities.
The kids will take everything. Make sure to prioritize time with your spouse over the kids. Remember that your husband comes first. At the end of today’s show, I read an email from listener Ariana who shares that our recent episode about standing up for yourself really spoke to her as she struggles with controlling the planning of her wedding.
