The School of Athens, by Raphael, is widely held up as the example par excellence for Renaissance thinking. But it’s only one half of the whole. To get a fuller picture of the Renaissance itself—as a movement of Reason AND Faith—we’ll have to turn around and look at Raphael’s other masterpiece, the Disputation of the Holy Sacrament.
